The Museum of San Marco is well worth a visit: it is a magic place full of art and history, an architectural masterpiece from Michelozzo, housing the famous collection of Fra Angelico works of art, one of the greatest painters of the Renaissance.

The Museum iconic image is the Annunciation by Fra Angelico”, painted on the wall of the first floor. The dorm cells are beautifully decorated with frescoes by Fra Angelico. You can also admire other masters' works, including Domenico Ghirlandaio, Fra Bartolomeo, Alessio Baldovinetti and many others.

The entrance to the library - commissioned to Michelozzo - is one of the finest examples of Renaissance interior with its arches supported by columns, and with ionic capitals on their top.

Collections

All the Monastery rooms are located around the Michelozzo's cloister. In the Hospice Hall there is the world biggest collection of paintings of Beato Angelico. The Large Refectory part was build later to house painting of Fra Bartolomeo and of the San Marco School's artists.

The Small Refectory is decorated with the Last Supper frescoed by Domenico Ghirlandaio. Fra Angelico's frescoes are located everywhere, in the cloister and in the Chatper House, on the upper floors, in the corridoes and inside the cells of the dormitory.

On the upper floor you can find the beautiful Michelozzo's library, hosting a collection of 15th century books. Here, at the end of the dormitory you find the famous cells belonged to Savonarola with memories of his life and his death.
